About classes
Music Fun for Everyone classes are conducted by experienced teachers who are Music Education Specialists. (And mums!)
We also take term bookings which are offered at a reduced rate. Please note our classes operate within the School terms, so we do not hold classes during the school holidays.
In the 30-minute sessions children will have an opportunity to explore all areas of music in a supportive, friendly and fun environment. They will have the opportunity to socialise and interact with other children and adults during the session and will learn lifelong skills like turn taking, sharing and co-operation. During the sessions we aim to develop children’s co-ordination and motor skills through movement, songs and dance. We also try to incorporate sensory activities using scarves, hand ribbons, bubbles, feathers and rainbow parachutes.
Sessions will provide each child with the opportunity to:
- SING popular songs from current performers, traditional and action songs, world music, finger plays, chants and nursery rhymes.
- LISTEN and talk about various styles of music from classical, world music, current, ambient and soundtracks. The children will also listen to their own voices, noises and instrument play and those of other children, adults and the teacher leading the group.
- LEARN how to play a range of percussion instruments such as tapping sticks (claves), bells, wood tone blocks, triangles, maracas and hand drums. They will also learn self-awareness and gain confidence through performance.
- DANCE and explore movement to instruments and differing musical pieces exploring free and expressive movement, directed dance and concepts of beat, rhythm and tempo.
- PLAY and interact with other children and parents in a friendly, supportive and fun environment.
- CREATE their own music by exploring how to use their voice, instruments and body percussion in music making activities and dramatising musical stories.
The lessons have been planned using Kate’s extensive knowledge and experience in teaching Music Education and Performing Arts in primary schools for the past 15 years. Also Clare’s training in primary Music Education, experience in Early Childhood music sessions and experience performing over many years. The lessons are based on a theme that is influenced by both Orff and Kodaly Methods of Music Education philosophy and practice, and usually run for 3-5 weeks. Some of the current themes are:
- Transport
- Me – My Body
- Animals
- Elephants
- In the Kitchen
- Celebrations Â
Seasons - Pre-historic Fun
- The Weather
- At the Pond
- Jungle Fun
- The Seasons
- Welcome to Music
- Under the Sea
- Pirate Adventures
- Colors of the Rainbow
- Fairies
- Fun with Toys
Sessions are planned by Clare and Kate to allow for flexibility and will incorporate interests that individuals in the groups may have. Sessions are regularly evaluated to ensure the highest level of service is provided. Lessons focus on musical concepts such as:
- Rhythm & beat
- Tempo (fast, slow)
- Dynamics (soft, loud)
- Pitch (high, low)
- Melody
- Tone Colour
Sessions are designed for parents/carers to stay and be actively involved. Families come to music classes with various musical experiences and it is quite normal for children to take several weeks to feel comfortable and confident to join in. We encourage parents/carers to be patient and be assured that most children are taking it all in. We recommend that parents participate as much as possible and this will support the child’s learning and confidence.
BIRTHDAY PARTIES
We provide an educational and fun birthday session for your child and his/her friends in your home or chosen venue. We will adapt a session to specifically suit your child and we provide all instruments and props required. A party session usually runs for 45 mins and in this time the children will sing, dance, move, create, listen and play. The Birthday child will have the opportunity to lead their friends in activities, songs and musical games and will receive a fun musical gift.
